A new venue, with an opening date on the calendar
DAVIarena, a multipurpose venue under construction in Sabaneta in the Medellín metropolitan area, is scheduled to open on November 14 with a concert by Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes. IQ Magazine’s October 6 interview with the venue’s commercial manager, Tomás Uribe, framed the opening as a signal of confidence to promoters considering Antioquia for major tours. That is management’s stated ambition, not an independently measured change in promoter demand. [1][3]
The planned program is broader than concerts alone. Management’s stated program includes urban, pop, rock, salsa and popular music, alongside sports, corporate and family events. Its initial target is more than 75 events a year. These are operating plans made before the venue opens; the published materials do not yet establish how many bookings will be completed or how many people will attend. [1][3]
Capacity changes with the kind of show
A site visit reported by El Colombiano on October 2 described a building then 92 percent complete, with about 600 people working across roughly 90 shifts as crews prepared for operational testing before opening. Published full-arena capacity figures differ: El Colombiano gives 17,795, DAVIarena’s August 28 article says 17,950, and Telemedellín rounds to 18,000. None explains the discrepancy, so this article uses roughly 18,000 rather than presenting one exact figure as settled. El Colombiano also reports that the ground-floor platea can hold 6,000 people standing or 3,500 seated, depending on the event. [2][3][4]
The promoter-facing case also rests on technical specifications. IQ reports a rigging grid rated for loads up to 140 tonnes, a rolling stage up to 14.6 by 19.2 meters, five loading docks and a 3,170-square-meter yard able to accommodate 10 to 15 trucks at once. Uribe says the setup is intended to shorten load-in and load-out and meet large-tour production requirements. Those are design and management claims; the venue’s operating performance can only be assessed once events begin. [1]
El Colombiano places the site about 350 meters from the Itagüí Metro station. That proximity may be useful to readers assessing access, alongside the venue’s sound, entry and changeover planning. [2]
The first dates will test the range of the plan
The first dates reported by El Colombiano span a quick opening run: Juanes on November 14, Chayanne on November 19, Kris R on November 20 and Rubén Blades on November 21. The mix spans different audiences and formats, but announced dates are not completed shows, sold tickets or evidence of sustained annual utilization. [2]
For fans, the practical questions are whether the announced events proceed as scheduled and how the venue handles access, transport and production across consecutive nights. For promoters and music professionals, the meaningful evidence will come after doors open: realized event counts, workable changeovers, attendance by configuration and repeat bookings. The venue’s 75-event target is a forecast to measure against, not a result to report in advance. [1][2][3]
Projections need a post-opening scorecard
Telemedellín reported management projections of roughly 350 billion Colombian pesos in economic spillover and about 15 billion pesos a year in cultural parafiscal contributions to Sabaneta. Those numbers are expectations attributed to the venue’s administration, not audited outcomes. They should not be repeated as money already generated or as a measured effect on local businesses. [3]
DAVIarena’s opening therefore creates a clear reporting checkpoint rather than an immediate verdict on regional growth. Later evidence could show how many events took place, which show configurations were used, what mobility arrangements operated, and whether the venue’s stated economic projections were met. Until those records exist, the grounded story is narrower but still significant: Antioquia is preparing a large new live-entertainment venue, and its first season will show whether the infrastructure and calendar can work together as planned.
